About Me

Your humble author’s name is Vivek Singh and he is 24 years old. He was raised in various parts of India before travelling to the US for higher education at the ripe age of 19. He was part of a 3-2 Combined Plan Program under which he was a Physics major at Adelphi University in Garden City, NY for three years before transferring to Columbia University’s Materials Science and Engineering program in 2007. He had never been to the US prior to his arrival here in August 2004 and he amuses himself by assuming that he has adjusted to life away from home. Food can be a bit of an issue since he grew up vegetarian but he gets by somehow. People talk about the “Freshman 15″ weight gain and he likes to smugly say that he lost 15 pounds as a freshman (and continues to lose weight every time he is in the US).

He loves good rock music and video games and good comedy and movies.  Tool, Porcupine Tree, Rush, R.E.M., and The Decemberists are some of his favorite bands. For a complete list, stalk him on last.fm.

When it comes to TV, he is a big fan of shows such as Battlestar Galactica, Arrested Development, South Park, Lost, Dexter, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, etc. He loves a lot of video games, but his favorite type of games are first person shooters such as Half-Life 2. He’s also a big fan of rhythm games such as Rock Band. Recently, he has been playing Left 4 Dead and Mass Effect on PC, and Chrono Trigger on the DS.

He graduated from Columbia in May 2009 and will attend MIT (i.e., nerd central) beginning September 2009 to start a Ph.D. program in Materials Science. If all goes well, this should take about five years. After that? He prays that the recession will go away so that he can land an industry job.

Last Updated: As of July 23, 2009, he is constantly being harassed by his dear mother to get married.
