The 10-Song Playlist: Tool

A new feature series!  YAY!

So, as I was “working” yesterday, my mind drifted away and I remembered a series I had wanted to do way back in January.  This new series will feature 10-song playlists from artists that yours truly adores.  At first, I had difficulty deciding whether I wanted to limit myself to 10 songs or if I wanted to do CD-length playlists.  Considering the fact that a bunch of the artists I love are fond of writing 10-15 minute epics, CD-length would’ve limited their playlists to 6-7 songs at most.  On the other hand, bands such as R.E.M. would be able to squeeze in about two dozen songs on an 80-minute CD.  So, I figured I’d go with the 10-song limit.  This is going to be extremely difficult with some artists (those with 10+ studio albums or Tool).  Hence, I’ll add THREE honorable mentions at the end of each top 10 list.

To kick things off, this post features my top 10 Tool songs, roughly in ascending order.  Please, please, please, please remember that these lists are highly subjective.  My opinions will probably differ from yours and that’s totally cool.  I still hate you for having them though.

Format:  Song Name - ALBUM - Song Length

10.  Ticks & Leeches - LATERALUS - 8:10

9.  The Grudge - LATERALUS - 8:36

8.  Jambi - 10,000 DAYS - 7:28

7.  Third Eye - ÆNIMA - 13:46

6.  Ænema - ÆNIMA - 6:39

5.  Pushit - ÆNIMA - 9:55

4.  Parabol/Parabola - LATERALUS - 9:07

3.  Vicarious - 10,000 DAYS - 7:06

2.  Stinkfist - ÆNIMA - 5:10

1.  Lateralus - LATERALUS - 9:24

————————————————

Total Playing Time:  85:21

Honorable Mentions:  EVERYTHING ELSE!  On a more serious note:  10,000 Days, Forty Six & 2, Schism.

This was a very, very, very hard list to compile.  As you can see, the top 10 won’t even fit on an 80-minute CD.  Even with the extra three, there are still a bunch more songs I would’ve loved to include.  In a nutshell, Tool are my favorite band and I think you should listen to everything they’ve ever done.

PS:  Sorry about the delay with the theme update.  I haven’t had a chance to do much since I posted the update last week.  But rest assured, I will have that theme up before this summer slips away.

Vicarious is such a good song, and I can’t believe 10,000 days just missed the top ten, but then again, that was the first album I was introduced to. I have less history with the other albums. Love the new feature, very cool. In a world that relies more on mp3s and iTunes, I think the 10 song limit is perfect. And it’s easier to read as presented if every artist gets just 10 songs. Fun feature, hope to see it often.
