I love Spring. The skies are a clear shade of blue, the sun is out, the weather turns warm and pleasant, the miniskirts come out, and girls in bikinis sun bathe on the lawns at Columbia. It truly is a wonderful time of the year. It has taken a while to set in this year, but I love all this warm weather! Makes me want to avoid doing any work, or at least do it outside in the sun.
Then why am I on a computer writing out yet another blog entry, you ask? I have no friends. All my homework this week requires a computer. And as you might know, my laptop is in no condition to be out in the open on its own, untethered from its feeding tube external monitor. Oh well, things are what they are. Can’t do much to change them. OR CAN I? Nah, not really.
So what are we here for again? Oh right, we’re gathered here to talk about some fantastic mobile technology. Let’s get on with it then, shall we?
Okay it’s not that hard to figure out that I missed the one month report window by about 2 weeks. So instead of writing a belated one month report, I present to you the 1.5 Month Report! An unprecedented event!
Now that I think about it, delaying the report was a good idea, even though it wasn’t my idea. Blame Columbia engineering. Or thank it. I still love my phone and I’m still finding out new stuff to do with it. I installed the N-gage application and tried out some demos (FIFA08, etc.) and I think it’s good. It’s like Xbox Live for S60. I wish the games were cheaper though. No, I haven’t bought any yet.
I setup an ad-hoc network with my laptop so that I can now share my internet connection over WiFi with my N95. It’s pretty frakking sweet if you ask me. I also found this piece of software that lets me wirelessly access my phone’s content on the laptop and vice versa. So I can easily copy stuff without having to hook up the phone and stuff. Plus, I have an application called mobbler that can scrobble tracks I play on my phone to last.fm. It sometimes has trouble doing this, since I set it to rely only on WiFi connections. Now if only someone would write an app to import all the tracks I’ve played on my Zen in the last year and a half…
I’ve had the phone freeze and restart on me a couple of times. However, I believe this was due to some of the applications I have installed, rather than the phone itself running out of memory. Even with 3-4 applications running, there’s loads of RAM available. I’ve found myself not using the GPS much - I tried it out a few times while I was walking back to my room from classes, just for fun. Nokia Maps is very useful however, as it lets me assign landmarks on the NYC map so that I can easily locate places I need to get to. And one note about the calendar features. It may not be the greatest PIM system in the world, but what I love is how memos and reminders show up on the home screen. You can set them to be there just for a day or for many days. I use it to keep reminding myself of upcoming events and things I need to get done.
There is still more stuff I can do with this phone but I need free time. I think when I’m sitting all alone in my dorm room over the summer, I can satisfy my social urges by installing applications on my phone. It can be our little secret!
Before I sign off, I’d like to declare that Dinosaur Comics are the funniest webcomics. I’m totally serial. If you’re not reading them yet, please do yourselves a favor and start doing so immediately. And go listen to the new R.E.M. album, Accelerate.

Tried Niime for your N95’s accelerometer? Or the Lightsaber one? I love that, but just seen it in videos. Got to get one of these new phones soon.
Btw, your post shows up in white font colors even in the feeds, making it unreadable unless highlighted (on most systems, anyway)..

Hmmm…enjoying the weather eh…it must be a “huge” relief from that sub zero temperatures. Well I was thinking about the post but couldn’t think of what it could be. Anyways I’ve read it and can very well imagine how useful the phone is for you…I mean you waited so long for a good phone which suits your needs and greeds
The web capabilities are surely good.
Well Qwantz surely does rock, even I’m a fan of it, and I still haven’t tried R.E.M. yet, but hopefully will listen them soon.

Thanks for that tip on font colors Harsh. I’ll stick to the default blue from now on. I started using white for the longer posts because it’s easier to read against the dark blue background.
I have one or two accelerometer based apps but what I’m really waiting for is NokMote. It has been stuck in beta for ages now!
Also, I added a few more lines to the post.
