I finally decided to go ahead and reinstall Windows. My hard drive was full of a lot of junk and unnecessary programs. And for some reason, XP was crashing every now and then for absolutely no good reason. I mean, I know Windows is meant to do that as a reminder that you are using a crappy OS, but beyond a certain point it gets annoying. It took 3 BSODs in 2 days for me to make up my mind. I’ve seen worse with my WiFi nightmares but then those were my own doing and had a reason behind them. Besides, WMP11 Beta and Gaim made it a habit of eating up large chunks of CPU time. System cleansing was in order.
Good thing I have my external drive to backup everything otherwise trying to burn CDs for 25GB of data would’ve been a nightmare. First boot after reinstall took about 25 seconds. A gazillion installations later, the boot time is around 40 seconds. Let’s see how long that lasts. I also found myself banging my head on the desk after unsuccessfully trying to enter my password at the Windows logon a few dozen times. I hadn’t set any password to begin with. Which reminds me, I still haven’t. Must do that right away.
So, I installed Windows and fired up Internet Explorer so that I could download the latest version of Firefox. And this is what XP told me:
I don’t think I need to elaborate on what’s going on here.
Apparently I need to move back into my regular room this weekend. Alas! I’ll give up the sweet air-con in my current room but then again, I get back my private bathroom and the suite. As I’ve mentioned before, moving is a pain. Especially when you need to carry all your stuff over to another building. You start from the fourth floor of one, and drag everything to the second floor of another. Oh, did I mention that the building I’m currently in has no elevator? Plus, my reluctance to give away textbooks manifests itself as painful suffering - I have to somehow transport two hampers weighing more than 50 pounds each. Yeah, my back’s already aching.
Man summer just whizzed past like my bitchin’ Lamborghini Gallardo in Need for Speed. Only 18 days until school starts again. While it’ll relieve me of the misery that is living on campus during summer, it also means no more sitting around doing nothing. I had intended to read ALL my textbooks before school started, my so far I’ve managed 2 out 6 for just ONE subject. Quantum Mechanics? Oh yes, I’ve read a grand total of 5 pages - and that’s just review for stuff that I learned in another class.
I really need a new theme for my blog. It’s beginning to hurt the eye now. Even the dashboard looks more pleasant than my home page. If anyone has any suggestions, I’ll be grateful. I’m looking (or rather SHOULD be looking) for a theme where I can easily place Ad-Sense banners and present a truckload of information without cluttering the interface. Damn that Kiwi Theme was good if it weren’t for small quirks.
Now let me go find something better to do with my time. Hey! YouTube sounds like a good way to while away time. WHORES!

Congratulations Nemi! I still cant figure out how you streched so long before a XP reinstall. As for a nice theme, switch to the basic Kubrick

Haha I hate reinstalling Windows. It’s always a pain in the ass. The first computer I owned, ran Windows 95 for 5 straight years with no reinstalls. Although I got very few BSODs, at the end of the 5 years, it would take 5-6 minutes just to boot up
Then my next one ran fine for a year before my hard drive gave up. I let the new install run for another year or so before reinstalling. That desktop has not seen a reinstall in 2 years I think.
I’ll take a look at Kubrick.

Looks like you need to cool down a bit.
BTW, what are those icons? One next to network connection and the last near clock?

first would be the wifi and the latter is the trackpad. I personally dont like that trackpad in the status bar, it even shows the pressure variation! Mostly there is no need to install drivers for basic use of trackpad.

Yep, Sourabh got the icons right. The one with the 4 bars in the signal strength indicator and the other one is the TrackPad. Like Sourabh said, the trackpad works just fine even without its own drivers although I have a Logitech G5 anyway.
And don’t worry mate, everything’s nice and cool - this is just the way I tend to write.

Man even I had to reinstall it twice over a period of 2 weeks. First when I got that temporary hard disk when mine crashed, and second time when the replacement unit arrived. Install all those apps again, virus scans, updates, backups and lifes starts to get slow. But then feels good to be back where it was before the install, just a bit faster.
