Top Things of 2005: Part II
Continuing with my top lists, here’s part 2, possibly the last, which lists some of my favorite music from 2005. Let’s start off with the top music albums.
Top 5 Music Albums:
This list is exclusively for albums released in 2005. Other than the top 5, I’ve listed some more good albums.
5. Angel City - Love Me Right
A good dance album this. Angel City had been churning out singles that made it to Hed Kandi and Ministry of Sound compilations in the last couple of years. This is their first full album and it doesn’t disappoint. From start to finish, the songs are impressive. The remixes included at the end could have been better though. Best Tracks: Love Me Right, Confession, Sunrise, City Lights
4. Garbage - Bleed Like Me
Garbage returned this year with a new album after a long gap. This one sounds a little different from their earlier work but nonetheless, this was the album that got me into Garbage. Songs are good and still retain the old Garbage sound. Shirley Manson does her job well as always. Best Tracks: Bleed Like Me, Metal Heart, It’s All Over But The Crying, Why Do You Love Me
3. Story of the Year - In The Wake of Determination
Page Avenue nearly made Platinum sales two years back. Lead singer Dan claimed that PA was not what Story really sounded like. The new album is quite a contrast from PA and will take a few listens to get into. This one is less Emo and more Metal and people who loved PA will have a hard time getting into this one. I only got into the album after I had heard it 5-6 times. Seems like Story are growing and that’s a good sign. Best Tracks: Sleep, We Don’t Care Anymore, Take Me Back, Five Against The World
2. Audioslave - Out Of Exile
Formed after two influential 90s bands, Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden split, this band features the voice of Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and all the musicians from Rage (Zach left the band). While their self-titled debut album was pretty good, this one is even better. Seems like the members are finally gelling into a band with a cohesive sound. While I would probably still prefer Rage, Audioslave hold their own. Best Tracks: Be Yourself, Dandelion, Your Time Has Come, Out of Exile
1. System of a Down - Mezmerize/Hypnotize
Without any doubt, my favorite album of 2005. System returned with a bang with this double album, four years after their last album. While Toxicity is still the favorite of many System loyalists, I would have to pick this one as their best effort. Infused with lyrics on political issues, this double album is an adventure from beginning to end. It is one of those albums where you like every song and will be hard-pressed to drop any songs. Daron gets much more involved with the singing this time around. While Serj is certainly a more capable singer, SOAD are probably just trying out new things. Best Tracks: B.Y.O.B., Hypznotize, Soldier Side, Sad Statue…the list goes on but I’ll terminate it at 4 songs.
Some more notable mentions:
Hed Kandi Presents Twisted Disco 02.05: The music compiled in this album was selected from Hed Kandi’s really late dance mixes.
The Crystal Method - Tweekend: While not as good as their other efforts (Legion of Boom, Community Service, etc.), this album is still worth listening to.
DJ Sammy - The Rise: DJ Sammy’s sophomore album pales in comparison to his debut album, Heaven. Still, some good tracks such as Rise Again, Long Way To Go, etc., will keep you happy.
Green Day - Bullet in a Bible: This CD DVD set includes Green Day’s live performance at the Milton Keynes arena in England. Asupercharged performance by Green Day although the DVD is slightly disappointing and the CD does not include all the live performances.
15 songs that I played over and over again:
Now here are some songs which I got stuck into this past year. It’s not necessarily in any order nor are all the songs from albums released in 2005. Just some songs which stayed in the recently played list in WMP for a LONG time. I’m limiting myself to just 1 song per artist and the album name is in parentheses.
1. System of a Down - B.Y.O.B. (Mezmerize)
2. A Perfect Circle - Passive (eMOTIVE)
3. Audioslave - Set It Off (Audioslave)
4. Story of the Year - Sleep (In The Wake Of Determination)
5. Alice in Chains - Got Me Wrong (Music Bank)
6. Asle Presents Frost - Wait For Me (6AM Club Mix) (Hed Kandi Presents Twisted Disco 02.05)
7. Linkin Park - In The End (Hybrid Theory)
8. Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams (American Idiot)
9. Angel City - City Lights (Love Me Right)
10. DJ Tiesto - In My Memory (In My Memory)
11. Rage Against The Machine - Wake Up (Rage Against The Machine)
12. Darren Hayes - Darkness
13. Garbage - Bleed Like Me
14. Rob Dougan - Clubbed To Death (Kurayamino Version)
15. Ian Van Dahl - Without You (Lost

I don’t listen to songs that much, I listen to FM and d/l the songs that I like.
But I liked the following songs..
In the End - Hybrid theory
Lonely - Rob Thomas
Crazy frog — Axel F
Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams with oasis feat as well and yeah even American Idiot itself.
There might be more songs, if I have no idea as to when they might have released!
IMHO, part 1 was better.
anywayz, “to each his own” they say. and it’s true as well. after all it’s the music ! the feel that keeps a person grooving !
as for me, been listening to a lot of music, but primarily Metallica.
I forgot abt Black eyes pies — monkey business (if at all it was a 2005 release).
This is also good, but vivek, you should have posted games in part 2 and movies/music in part one. Anyways can we look for part 3?
Oh that hitlist of yours is pretty good mate.I already had some of those in my fav playlists, but upon your recommendation I did get a few others u’ve listed here. Thanks
